AAU marks March 8

Addis Ababa University marked March 8, women’s day, at the AAU main campus on March 7, 2017.

Themed ‘the saving culture of women is the basis for our renaissance,’ the event featured different sport competitions between staff women and students of the university.

The event was organized by the Gender Office of the AAU. 

In her opening remarks, Directress of the Gender Office of the AAU, Almaz Tafesse noted that the goal of the celebration was to create awareness to end all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere, achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

“It’s also a day to connect with one another physically, virtually and spiritually in order to fight gender inequality,” she went to add.

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on the progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

At an international level, the day is celebrated with the theme “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030.”
