Thai delegation visits AAU

The Thai delegation from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University have visited Addis Ababa University from 8-12 June 2015. Specifically, the delegation have discussed on various collaborative issues with Dr.Fekadu, Associate Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture and other officials at Addis Ababa University.
The visit was meant for exploring potential areas of collaboration and partnership for mutual benefit. The event has featured five paper presentations on issues pertinent to epidemiological methods, beef and dairy cattle in Thailand, major infectious diseases, feeding methods and types of feed and nutritional research.
The collaborative efforts also include ‘African Studies’ as a result of which African Studies staff members have visited Thailand recently.
Similarly, as Ethiopia and Thailand marked their 50th year anniversary of diplomatic relations; Addis Ababa University has hosted a commemorative Thai cultural performance on 25 November, 2014 at the Nelson Mandela hall.
The Thai commemorative cultural show was organized by the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo accredited to Ethiopia in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Thailand and the office of External Relations, Partnerships and Communications of the Addis Ababa University. In this regard, with a team of more than 25 performers, the Thai cultural troop entertained more than five hundred students of Addis Ababa University at the Nelson Mandela hall.
The whole collaboration is being coordinated by the office of External Relations, Partnerships and Communications of the Addis Ababa University.

List of the delegates and their presentation
Dr.Uttra Jamikorn, Assistant Dean for Educational Quality has presented on two topics entitled, graduate study at Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University and Ruminant Feed & Feeding in Thailand. This session has provided information about feeding methods, types of feed, especially roughage for cattle in Thailand and nutritional research.
With a topic entitled, Major Ruminant Parasitic Diseases in Thailand, Dr. Piyanan Taweethavonsawat, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, has highlighted major parasitic diseases of ruminant in Thailand.
Similarly, Dr.Kittisak Ajariyakajorn from the Department of Veterinary Medicine has also presented on the topic entitled, Beef and Dairy Cattle Industries and Diseases in Thailand. This session has provided information on population of beef and dairy cattle in Thailand. The major infectious diseases including FMD, Brucellosis and tuberculosis in the ruminant were also exhibited.
In addition, Dr.Chaidate Inchaisri, Department of Veterinary Medicine, has also presented on the topic entitled, Applying epidemiological tools for disease control: FMD and Brucellosis. The important epidemiological methods were introduced and explained particularly in the studies of epidemiology of FMD and brucellosis in Thailand.
