Girmachew Alemu Aneme

Dr. Girmachew Alemu Aneme is an Associate Professor of Law at the School of Law of Addis Ababa University. He lectures at the graduate and PhD programs of the School of Law focused on Sociology of Law, Human Rights, International Law, and Transitional Justice.  In addition to his teaching and research obligations, Dr. Girmachew is currently serving as Associate Dean for Graduate Programs at the College of Law and Governance Studies.

Dr. Girmachew has published on transitional justice, environmental rights, legal pluralism, children rights, and the African Union. He was a visiting scholar at the Harvard Law School (2017/18 academic year), a visiting scholar at the Free University of Berlin (September 2014) and a Humphrey Fellow at the Minnesota University School of Law (2012/13 academic year). He maintains an active research interest in political parties and election policies and laws, justice sector reform processes, law and public policy, and sociology of law.

Dr. Girmachew holds a PhD and MA in international law and human rights from the University of Oslo, MPA from Harvard University, and LL.B. from Addis Ababa University.
