Program Objective
General Objectives – The Bachelor of Arts Degree in French language and professional skills offers a rigorous, integrated training in language and professional skills. It is concerned with the study of texts and their interpretation and meaning; their historical, social and cultural contexts, their transmission across time; and the relationship of individual works to the tradition.
Specific Objectives – the program aims:
- To give intensive courses in the French language and increase students’ awareness of cultural knowledge and intercultural attitudes;
- To train French language high-level manpower that satisfies the quality requirements of International Organizations, public or private official agencies;
- To train students who are capable of planning and carrying out a professional work in French;
- To enhance the use of multimedia tools such as computer in all its aspects, video and audio recording, publishing;
- To enable students build confidence, autonomy in learning and stimulate creative thinking and critical capacities through reading, writing and speaking the French language;
- To offer practical courses that seek to develop the students as effective professionals by providing them with knowledge and awareness of their future career environment;
- To foster and enhance scholarly research.
Admission requirements – To major in French Language and Professional Skills, students are required to fulfill the following:
- Successful completion of Preparatory Program (10+2);
- High interest in the field;
- Students who have no prior knowledge of French can be admitted into the first year;
- Students who have prior knowledge in French Language and succeed in passing the DELF B2 can be admitted into the second year provided that they fulfill the University’s admission requirements;
- Former students of Lycée Guebre Mariam who passed Baccalauréat Examination could be admitted into the second year of the BA Program in French Language and Professional Skills.
- Consequently, these students who are allowed to be admitted in the second year of the Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Professional Skills will be exempted from the following courses: FlFr1011, FlFr1012, Flfr 1013, Flfr 1014, FlFr1021, FlFr1022, FlFr1023 and FlFr1024.
Graduation requirement: To graduate, students must have:
- Taken a minimum of 240 ECTS;
- A CGPA and MGPA of 2.00 and above.
- No “F” grade in any course taken
- At the end of their studies, students will have the necessary competencies to sit for the international French language examination DELF B2.
