AAU library opens Chinese books corner

Confucius Institute (CI) of the Addis Ababa University (AAU) together with AAU Library launched Chinese book corner in John F. Kennedy Library on 28th March, 2017.

This is the first Chinese book corner opened in Ethiopian universities comprising 1046 volume books and 612 CDs which cover the Chinese culture, language learning, classic novels, philosophy and other aspects.

“As AAU is the first class university in Ethiopia, my government would further strengthen the assistance so as to bolster our bilateral relations” so said Mr. Yan Xiangdong, Cultural Counselor to Chinese Embassy in Addis Ababa speaking on the launching ceremony held at John F. Kennedy Library.

Commending the book grant from the Chinese government, Mesfin Gezahagn, Head of AAU libraries stated that the launching of the corner is of a Paramount significance to student of the Chinese Language at Confucius Institute in the AAU providing access with Chinese Language learning.


“It is a great opportunity to them for it serves as references and reading materials for improving their Chinese language proficiency” he added.

The corner is placed at the ground floor of John F. Kennedy Library reservation hall.

CI at AAU was established in 2013 and opened the Chinese BA degree program in AAU with 30 graduates in the past two years and 82 students currently in the Program.
