Graduate Profile
Graduates from the postgraduate programs are expected to exhibit the following attributes:
- Exhibit core skills, knowledge, and attitude in information, knowledge and systems management;
- Apply scientific principles in developing and managing information, knowledge and systems and solutions designed to meet needs and interests of users of different organizations and contexts;
- Analyze, describe, and organize resources for effective and efficient retrieval and dissemination of information and knowledge;
- Apply management principles in planning, developing, marketing, and evaluating information, knowledge and systems and solutions in various sectors;
- Conduct research in information, knowledge and systems management, particularly to address constraints and potentials in Ethiopian context;
- Build upon current knowledge of information and communication theories and technologies in planning, design, development, and delivery of information services; and
- Select develop and use effective teaching strategies to enhance teaching/learning process in information science, information systems, library and information management, health informatics and language technologies.
Program Objectives
Programs in the school are aimed at equipping graduates with the knowledge in the theories and practices of teaching and conducting research in Information Sciences, Information Systems and Language technology as well as designing and managing modern information systems and services. Programs are designed to prepare students who can assume such professional responsibilities as IS practitioners, university lecturers and researchers as well as information managers, systems analysts and planners. They have also been acquainted with the technical knowledge to lead a data processing or information systems of an organization

The requirements for admission to the program are as per the University’s admission requirement.
Graduates:
A pass mark in the entrance exam as set by the School is required for admission to the program.
Information Science Specialization
- BA/BSc degree in Statistics, Library Science, Information Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business Information Systems or
- BA/BSc degree in a related field and Diploma in IT related programs
Information Systems Specialization
- BA/BSc in Information Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science and other IT related fields
- BA/BSc graduates from recognized university in any discipline and a diploma or advanced certificate in IT and related fields
Library and Information Management Specialization
- BA/BSc degree in Library Science, Information Science OR
- BA/BSc degree in any field and Diploma in IT related programs OR
- BA/BSc degree in any field and Certificate in Knowledge Organization/Library Management
- BA/BSc degree in any field and a minimum of 3 years of library work experience in a Library or Information Center in the areas of knowledge organization (specifically in cataloging and classification).
Health Informatics Specialization
Education Background
- A Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Information Technology or any related field from a recognized university; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and related fields from a recognized university; and proven familiarity with computer skills.
Work Experience
- An official letter from employer confirming that applicant is working in the health system
- At least two years of work experience in the health system and related activities
Language Technology Specialization
- BA/BSc degree in Information Science, Information System, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology OR
- BA/BSc degree in Linguistics and related fields and Diploma in IT related programs
