The general objective of the MSc Programme is to produce qualified manpower and conduct research in priority areas that cater for Ethiopia’s developmental needs and environmental challenges, as well as to satisfy the national demand in the areas of plant biological education and research.
The general objective of the PhD Programme of the Department is to produce highly skilled graduates with international standard scientific competencies and established scientific knowledge to work on and provide leadership in Plant Biology and Biodiversity Management.

Admission Requirements
MSc admission:
The Department receives applicants who hold BSc degree in biology, plant sciences, forestry, natural resources management and other biology or plant biology related fields. All applicants must have (a) a cumulative GPA of 2.50, or (b) a CGPA of at least 2.00 with a major GPA of at least 2.50 during his/her graduation at undergraduate. Furthermore, all applicants should fulfill MSc admission requirements of Addis Ababa University.
PhD admission:
The Department of Biology and Biodiversity Management admits applicants who hold M.Sc. degree in Biology, Plant Sciences, Forestry, Natural Resources Management and other biology or plant biology related fields. All applicants must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or equivalent at MSc graduation. Furthermore, all applicants should fulfill PhD admission requirements of Addis Ababa University. The Department requires that a PhD applicant must fulfill the age requirements of AAU at admission, but subject to scrutiny by the DGC or AC.
