Programs and admission requirement

CES Program Objectives:

The overall objectives of the M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs are to train environmental science professionals who can lead, support, and advance training and research for the development and management of natural resources as well as address environmental issues in Ethiopia.

  1. Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Environmental Science
  2. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree in Environmental Science

The M.Sc. program normally requires a duration of two years. Each student in the M.Sc. program must complete a minimum of 90 ECTS.

Admission Requirements:

  1. Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Science

The MSc program is designed for those who have a first degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Earth Sciences, Agriculture, Forestry, Geography, Chemical Engineering, Land Resource Management, Environmental Health, Water Resources and related fields. Admission will be granted to applicants showing high promise of success as per admission criteria of the University and performance in the entrance examination.

  1. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Science

The PhD Program is designed for those who have a recognized MSc degree in environmental science or related fields such as chemistry, biology, earth sciences, natural resource management, environmental health, environmental engineering, water resources management, environment and development, geography and environmental studies, etc. Admissions will be granted as per the University regulation for graduate studies. A candidate who has a high scholarly standing, whose professional experience has been superior, who has passed center entrance examination and synopsis presentation shall be given priority for PhD program in Environmental Science. An applicant for admission to a PhD program must have an MSc degree from accredited institution of higher learning with a minimum academic standing of 2.00 and 3.00 CGPA in their undergraduate and post-graduate studies, respectively. Candidates will be expected to present a focused research proposal to the Centre as part of their application.
