National Research Projects: The Department is undertaking thematic research in biomedical sciences and food security.

Regional Research Projects:  The Department is involved in two research projects on sorghum improvement, funded by the regional consortium “Bioinnovate” that involves universities and agricultural institutes from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

International Cooperation: The Department has a teacher-student exchange program, as part of a project (SOIL-COM) with the University of Helsinki, Finland.
