GRADUATE PROGRAM 

CGS has been offering a master’s in Gender Studies both in the regular program (since 2005), and the extension program (since September 2018). So far, it has graduated over 240 students with MA in Gender Studies. Our graduates are currently serving at different capacities as policy makers, instructors in academic institutions, and experts and advisors in different governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as UN agencies.

Program Objectives

General Objectives

The overall objective of the MA program in Gender Studies is to produce gender sensitive researchers, practitioners, and policy makers with the capacity to analyze and understand gender relations and gender inequalities in Ethiopia through the lens of African and global feminist perspectives.

Specific Objectives:

  • Train professional who are knowledgeable in theories and methods of gender studies
  • Respond to the skilled expert demand of the country
  • Provide students and academic units of Addis Ababa University with specialist guidance and Knowledge in the field of Gender ; and
  • Strengthen AAU’s position and prominence in the area of research, education and training.

Number of Programs

CGS has an MA program in Gender Studies. Furthermore, the Center has found it necessary to diversify the areas of specialization in selected areas in gender studies and the first of which is expected to be in Gender and Reproductive Health.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the MA in Gender Studies program is highly competitive and is based on performance in the entrance examinations. It is open to qualified applicants who have a Bachelor Degree or equivalent from an accredited higher education institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.00.

Since the Center has launched its MA program in Gender Studies, it has so far graduated over 240 students at MA Level.
