The Conference on Bridging the Leadership Gaps in Africa Held at AAU
Addis Ababa University and PRO Leadership Global Inc. collaboratively organized a half-day Conference under the theme “ Bridging the Leadership Gaps to Tackle the Challenges Africa Faces” on July 17th 2019 at College of Business and Economics Campus, Eshetu Chole Hall.
The main focus of the conference is how to bring key stakeholders together and brainstorm on how to bridge the Geographic, Gender, and Generational leadership gaps in Africa to overcome the challenges the continent faces.
Dr. Demeke Achiso Director of External Relations, Partnerships and Communications Office, said in his opening speech, the general mission of Addis Ababa University is to produce competent graduates provide need based community services and produce problem solving research outputs through innovative education research and consultancy services to foster social and economic development of the country.
Guest of honor Dr. Eng Getahun Mekuria, Minister of Innovation and Technology, made his keynote speech under the theme “ The significance of raising competent leaders at all levels to transform Africa”. As he said Africa has to have leaders that are brave to go for new ideas we have to look leaders beyond the horizon. We choose to transform Africa not because it is easy because it is too hard.
Sewit Haileselassie, Abiy Shimelis and Maceda Afework delivered panel presentation on Bridging Gender Leadership Gap, Bridging the Geographic Leadership Gap and, Bridging the Generational Leadership respectively.
During the Conference Semhal Guesh CEO of KABANA Leather and Samuel Bekele, CEO of Spotlight shared the exposures of their achievements to the audience. Government officials, University Management, Youth and Women leaders were in attendance.
