Panel Discussion on Contemporary External Pressure of Ethiopia
Addis Ababa University (AAU) organized a panel discussion focused on current external pressure imposed on Ethiopia with the theme of “Western’s Intervention on Ethiopian Affairs and Post Conflict Situations” held at Sheraton Addis Hotel on January 26, 2022.
Professor Tassew Weldehanna, President of AAU, in his opening speech underlined that the background history of Ethiopian and the heroic straggle of its citizens against colonization and securing the sovereignty of the country, mentioning the Adwa victory as an example which became the sign of freedom for African and the black people as a whole.
The Western colonizers who have understood that they can never colonize Ethiopia directly, they have used some courier groups like the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to interfere in the internal affairs of the country, Prof. Tassew stated.
Prof. Tassew finally mentioned the effort of AAU in various instances like this panel discussion and its staff members support to the national defense force by contributing money from their salaries and donating blood several times.
Ambassador Dina Mufti, Spokesperson in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, on his keynote speech, stated that the role of scholars is very significant to protect the country from foreign intervention.
In addition to Ethiopia become the sign of freedom for all African Nation and this initiated them to fight for their freedom, Ethiopia has been supporting their freedom struggle in one way or another, Ambassador Dina mentioned.
Following the speeches, panelists delivered their presentations focused on three perspectives፡ Prof. Kassahun Birhanu on political aspect, Getachew Assefa (PhD.) on the applications of International Law and Prof. Alemayehu Geda on the Economics point of view.
