Network expansion project underway

For betterment in provision of teaching-learning, research and community services, higher learning institutions now rely on computer and network for all aspects of their activities. Taking advantage of the new Information and Communication technologies ((ICT), institutions of higher learning have been witnessed sharing best practices and course materials in education amongst themselves. Although, ICT has changed the very nature of higher education worldwide, much is still expected to be done ahead as there is a range of poor networking and internet connections especially in developing countries like Ethiopia.

Similarly, the problem has been evident in Addis Ababa University where strong internet connection is confined only to few places in each campus. To sort out this acute problem, the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development (EIABC) in collaboration with experts from the main campus and Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, has been undertaking network expansion project that can process information at an increasingly faster pace and available everywhere in different campus of the university. The project was launched during the 2007 fiscal year and currently its first phase has been completed.
