Languages and Cultures Academy celebrates Research Day

The AAU Academy of Ethiopian Languages and Cultures hosted a research day on 18 January, 2016 at the College of Business and Economics, Eshetu Chole Hall. Themed “Languages and Cultures Research for Comprehensive National Development,” the ceremony featured the inauguration of newly published books by the academy.

Aimed at standardizing and adopting letters to bring many languages of the country into written languages, the academy has been undertaking researches on some local languages of which 13 of them have been published and inaugurated during this ceremony. Many of the publications are on culture, letter adoption, and dictionary for certain languages of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, President of the AAU, Admasu Tsegaye (PhD) said that the academy is mandated to study, develop and expand languages and cultures of the country. He went on to state that it has done a lot during the last three years. He further expressed that as languages and cultures are identities of the society, they should carefully be studied and documented.

The Guest of honor Siraj Fegesa, Minister of Defense, pointed out that as a home for nations and nationalities, our country Ethiopia has fascinating cultures and languages that we all are responsible for protecting and integrating into academic, technological and business ventures.

Moderated by Professor Zerihun Woldu, AAU’s research director, the ceremony also entertained professional comments and suggestions on the newly published books by Getahun Amare (PhD), Zelalem Liyew (PhD) and Ato Zerihun Asfaw. Community representatives from the research area also attended the ceremony
