IER celebrates 50th founding anniversary
The Ethiopian Journal of education of the Institute of Educational Research of the AAU celebrated its 50th founding anniversary on June 27, 2017 at the Nelson Mandela hall.
In his welcoming speech, Director of the Institute of Educational Research, Belay Hagos (Ph.D.) pointed out that the Institute currently has three major activities: research, testing and publication services.
He also added that the institute is conducting two major thematic researches and nine adaptive problem solving researches with the publication and dissemination unit producing the Ethiopian Journal of Education (EJE), the Ethiopian Journal of Higher Education (EJHE) and the IER Flambeau.
The director also stated that the testing service prepares the National University Entrance Examination, conducts Periodic review of local tests, and serves as an agent for test administration of international testing institutions such as ETS (TOEFL, GRE and SAT) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Berhanu Abera (Ph.D.), assistant managing editor of IER Journals presented a research entitled: “The Ethiopian Journal of Education in Retrospect.” Participants reflected on the presentation. There was also a round table discussion by selected editorial board members and reviewers on the Ethiopian Journal of education, which was moderated by Prof Darge Wole – Editor-in-chief of the journal.
Mesfin Gezahegn, Head of Addis Ababa University Libraries, briefly explained about open access to publications of the institute of Ethiopian research and online issues of IER publications. The website http://ejol.aau.edu.et was officially inaugurated by Professor Darge Wole to provide open access to the above stated publications.
Finally, certificates of recognition were handed out to professionals who contributed towards the realization of the Institute’s goals.
The Institute of Educational Research (IER) had its beginnings in the 1960s as a research, documentation and publication unit of the faculty of Education. Currently, IER is directly accountable to the Office of the Vice-President for Research and Technology Transfer of the Addis Ababa University.
