DAAD Holds Regional Conference at Addis Ababa University

DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service ) held its regional Conference on  from 20-25 May 2019 at Goethe-Institute in Addis Ababa University.

During the conference, the college representatives explained that, DAAD has been supporting the German Language program at Addis Ababa University for over ten years, by bringing lecturers from Germany to teach in the German Sub-Unit, among other things.

Currently, the Sub-Unit is in the process of implementing a new BA degree for German studies with in  the College of Humanities, Language Studies, Journalism and Communication, we learned.

Representives of Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Addis Ababa University, The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences and the German Embassy were in attendance.

Ato Zwedu Kassa, a Director, at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, in his welcoming remarks, noted “We were working intensively for the last ten years with DAAD especially in engineering areas.’  

Prof. Jann Lay, Head of a research program at the German Institute of Global and Area studies (GIGA) in Hamburg, in his keynote speech said “We will gear our cooperation with Africa even more closely to trade private sector investment and innovation in the future and we will enhance our partnership  to contribute to the further development of Africa’’.

The conference also featured a panel of scholars from DAAD and Addis Ababa University on educational Cooperation between Germany and Africa.
