Addis Ababa University Rewards Professors and Hardworking Staff Members

Addis Ababa University (AAU) awarded its hard-working employees and outstanding scholars who recently have granted full professorship ranks at Ras Mekonnen Hall on the 26th of August 2021.

Professor Tassew Weldehanna, President of AAU, said that the 15 members of the academic staff who have recently been awarded the full professorship have been approved by the Senate and by the Board as reported in the media before.

According to the President, the 5 academic and administrative staff members who have been recognized for their outstanding performance in five categories have excelled in comparison with the rest of the staff.

“The success of an institution is ensured by the diligence and hard work of its employees; the efforts of the staff who serve their University and their Country sincerely in all fields are encouraging,” Prof Tassew said.

As stated by Prof. Tassew, the sincere participation and contribution of the University’s Staff is crucial to the success of the AAU mission to achieve the goals which have been set for tomorrow in terms of teaching, research and community service.

“Although many of the staff members have performed their duties well, it is an undeniable fact that some of the staff members have made significant contributions to their work relatively exceeding others,” Prof Tassew stated.

“We are honored and pleased to present you with the award for your outstanding performance in the field of academics and management staff. You should be proud of the performance and being exemplary to the rest,” he said.

Prof Tassew mentioned that the awarded professors have made significant contributions to the University’s regional and international status by doing series of researches and publishing results in world-renowned journals. The promotion of the scholars to full professorship also adds greater value for the efforts made to improve the academic staff profile of the University, he added.

The names of the promoted professors who have been awarded the full professorship have already been announced on various media and social Medias, whereas the names of the hard-working employees are as follows:

  1. Prof.  Mulugeta Atnafu from Educational and Behavioural Studies awarded ‘Distinguished Teaching Award’,
  2. Dr.  Kassu Michael from Educational and Behavioural Studies awarded ‘Distinguished Research Award’,
  3. Prof.  Jamal Haidar from Public Health awarded ‘Distinguished Service Award’,
  4. Mrs.  Solome Tadesse from Student Services awarded ‘Distinguished Make a Difference Award’ and
  5. Dr.  Bilal Shikur from Public Health awarded ‘Emerging Faculty Scholar Award’.
