Addis Ababa University Orients New Regular Undergraduate Students

Addis Ababa University (AAU), Office of Students’ Dean, facilitated orientation to new, regular undergraduate (freshman) students focused on the University’s services to be rendered to them throughout their stay in the University on the 4th of May 2022 at Lidet Hall.

The main purpose of the orientation is to inform the students that the University will work tirelessly to ensure that they are useful citizens with good behavior and full personality and that they should play their part responsibly.

Shibru Temesgen (PhD), Dean at the Office of Student Services of AAU, expressed in his welcoming speech that the University is very happy to receive the young but great scholars of tomorrow and responsive citizens of Ethiopia as well.

Mr. Mesele Birhanu from AAU main registrar on his part stated that student registration issues are always to be held online on the Portal of the University’s Website. There will also be a registration at the beginning of every semester throughout the students’ stay in the University, he added.

Up-to-date information of all the data, especially every student’s semester results related to academic performance, will be announced online in a manner that every student is solely accessing to his/her secured password, Mr. Mesele stated further.

Efforts are made to inform students of their rights and responsibilities in detail, and if any student is found to be violating University’s rules and regulations, disciplinary measures are also there.

It was stated that there will be penalties up to total dismissal for group quarrels; unnecessary religious and political activities; drug use and holding illegal weapons; sexual harassment and bullying; jumping in or out of the fence; using of non-personally identifiable IDs and so on.

Different Colleges, Institutions and Departments; Office of Student Services; Registrar, Gender Office, Library, Special Needs Support Centre, Campus Security and other units of the AAU briefed their services and requirements to the new entry students.
