AAU Press Launches Recently Published Books

Addis Ababa University Press (AAUP) inaugurated two recently published books, (‘The Nile in Geez Publications’ and ‘Damage Risk Insurance’), where different scholars and a number of invited guests found at Ras Mekonnen Hall of the University on Thursday, 10th of November 2022.

Alemseged Beldados (PhD), Director of the AAU Press, in his opening speech said that the Press has published thousands of different books since its establishment in 1967. The titles of its publications have steadily increased and diversified since then, he added.

According to Dr. Alemseged, the main purpose of AAU Press is to serve the publication and distribution needs of the Addis Ababa University community with a main focus of teachers and students by producing high quality textbooks and reference books.

In addition to serving the AAU community, the Press further strives to publish textbooks and high quality academic literature outputs in supporting the higher learning institutions in Ethiopia, Dr. Alemseged said.

As Dr. Alemseged stated, AAU Press has so far produced many reference books in biology (animals and plants), chemistry, climatology, hydrology, history, geography, sociology, political science, language, community health, computer science, engineering and many other fields as well as highly valued biographies useful for many generations to come.

The AAU Press director finally informed that his office recently talked its plan to the management board of the University to start electronic publications shortly possible.

Following the Director’s speech, two scholars presented their book reviews of the newly inaugurated books: Derib Ado (PhD) on “The Nile in Geez Publications, written by Mersha Alehegn (PhD), and Professor Tilahun Teshome on “Damage Risk Insurance” written by Mr. Eyobed Tibebu.

Dr. Derb stated his observation on “The Nile in Geez Publications” that the book reveals the depth of the knowledge and the insights of early Ethiopian scholars about the Nile River and the descriptions they used to glorify it as done for saints and martyrs in their writings. He also indicated that the book comprises reviews from about 17 Geez literature productions.

Professor Tilahun Teshome, from his survey reading of “Damage Risk Insurance“, mentioned that any reader who reads the book will gain great knowledge about the importance of insurance, and the book will also have great importance to those educated in the business world and professionals who are working on the insurance sector.

Warm discussion was held among the audience following the review presentation and the authors forwarded their briefings for reflections initiated by the participants.
