AAU observes 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy Memorial Library
The Addis Ababa University (AAU), in partnership with the Embassy of the United States of America, marked the 50th Anniversary of the President John F. Kennedy Memorial Library on May 15, 2017.
Speaking on the occasion, the Head of AAU Libraries, Mesfin Gezahagn noted that the library is a testimony for the cooperation and friendship of the two countries. He also stated that the library has been serving for the last 50 years as a hub for all graduates of the country doing their researches.
The event featured a photo exhibition commemorating President Kennedy’s life and work.
In her remarks at the opening of the exhibition, Acting Deputy Chief of the U.S Embassy, Lucy Abbot underscored: “The library is a symbol of the ongoing partnership between the United States of America and Ethiopia, which reaches far beyond the level of our governments, extending to business, education institutions and direct relations between our people.”
The construction of John F. Kennedy Memorial Library began in May 1965 and was officially inaugurated on September 12, 1967.
