AAU Inaugurates an Aljazeera Media Institute-Established Media Lab
Addis Ababa University (AAU) School of Journalism and Communication inaugurated a Media Lab established by Aljazeera Media Institute at the University’s main campus (Sidist Kilo) on the 2nd of August 2023.
The multimedia production center (Media Lab) was set in a room at School of Journalism and Communication found in Mandela Building of the University.
According to Abdulaziz Dino (PhD), Head for the School of Journalism and Communication, the center is hoped to solve the concerns of shortage of audio-visual and multimedia practice centers. The School management believes that the current Media Lab will contribute to students’ multimedia exposures and preparations before graduation, he added.
Dr. Abdulaziz noted that the initiative was a promise by H.E. Lolwah Rashid Al Khater, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, during her short visit and public lecture at the School in October 2019.
“The School hopes to meet the level that the current media and journalism education requires, and needs more capacity building as well as infrastructural cooperation,” was Dr. Abdulaziz’s final statement.
The inauguration was held in the presence of the Director of Media and Communication Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, representatives from Qatar Embassy and Aljazeera Media Network in Addis Ababa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, and members of AAU higher officials.
