AAU Holds Funeral Ceremony for the Distinguished Professor
Addis Ababa University held a funeral ceremony for the well-known Professor Mesfin Weldemariam at Sidist Kilo main campus today 06 Oct 2020.
Government officials, competitive parties’ leaders, all AAU community including the President, country celebrities and all bereaved members attended the ceremony.
Mr. Tagese Chafo, Speaker of the Ethiopian House of Peoples Representatives, was one among many who gave eulogy at the funeral. He stated Prof Mesfin as an icon man who scarified his entire life for his country and people beyond own benefits and comfort.
Professor Tassew Weldehanna, President of AAU on his part briefed the long lasting contribution of Prof Mesfin to AAU, his country, the continent and the world as a whole.
According to Prof Tassew, Prof Mesfin started serving the then Haile Silassie I University, now AAU, after completed his first and second degree education from overseas, Indian and American different universities.
Prof Tassew added that Prof Mesfin Woldemariam reached the level of Professor and Fulbright Senior Scholar of career success serving AAU as lecture, researcher, coordinator and advisor to the department of geography.
‘Introduction Geography of Ethiopia’ and ‘The Atlas of Ethiopia’ are the most outstanding among the many written education course materials of Prof Mesfin contributed to AAU and other universities of the country, Prof Tassew said.
“AAU remembers Prof Mesfin all the time for his great roles he played that the University gets international recognising voicing it in different international episodes. The awarded certificate of appreciation in 1973 E.C. to him is an indication for this,” Prof Tassew mentioned.
Prof Tassew Weldehanna, President of AAU, finally stated that the University is sincerely proud for handling the funeral ceremony of the distinguished Prof in its campus and the community of AAU wishes condolences to the bereaved members due to the death of Prof Mesfin Weldemariam.
