AAU Donates Food and Non-food Items to War Victims
Addis Ababa University (AAU) donated food and non-food items to war victims displaced in Northern Ethiopia in attendance of the President and other senior officials of the University with a dispatching ceremony held at Sidist Kilo Main Campus on the 11th of November 2021.
As Professor Tassew Weldehanna, President of AAU, stated during the dispatch, the University has been providing a lot of support over the past few years providing financial and material assistance to the Ethiopian Defence Forces and other needy.
“Last year, the administration and academy staff of the university donated six million birr to those who were economically suffering following the lockdown due to the COVID-19 Pandemic,” Prof. Tassew said.
He recalled that the University donated ten million birr from its internal revenue the national defence forces and to those citizens who were physically and psychologically abused by terrorist acts elsewhere in the country.
“This year, as a result of aggravated fighting in northern Ethiopia, scores of people have been displaced; women and children have been humiliated and raped by terrorist forces. We have been providing assistance to these victims in cash as well as with food and non-food items,” Tassew noted.
“We have already provided more than five million birr worth of goods and food items to the displaced people in Dessie Front recently.”
Professor Tassew added, “Today, we are sending more than ten million birr worth of foodstuffs, cooking oil, several furniture and mattresses to the internally displaced people,”
